Eating Out

If you need a night off from the kitchen, then you don’t have to go very far from Casa Castagna to find a selection of restaurants to let someone else prepare your lunch or evening meal.

Villa Montotto is just up the hill (bottom of the drive turn right). Local fare at reasonable prices, extensive fish dishes and a good selection of meats. Expect overhead lighting and the TV on in the corner but it is popular with locals. (+39 0734 257390)

Locanda i Piceni (Ortezzano) is Italian food at its best. Chef Giampiero Giammarini worked in both Rome and the USA and produces some outstanding food. The restaurant looks out from the castle walls of Ortezzano and has an outside terrace for the summer. Reservation reccommended ( +39 0734 778000)

Il Tiglio (Monte Monaco) is fine dining near the mountains. The chef, Enrico Mazzaroni, is determined to select local produce and, using traditional methods, fashion nouvelle cuisine – which would give Masterchef a run for its money. (+39 0736 856441)

Enoteca Bar a Vino (Fermo) sit on the balcony and enjoy the views over the Piazza Del Popolo in this medieval town.  Run by Giuseppe Rossi, who trained in France, great local food with a fantastic selection of wines – one of our favourite places to go. (+39 0734 228067)

Il Faro (Pedaso) is a local fish restaurant, right on the beach nearest to the house.  Pedaso beach is shingle rather than sand, but that doesn’t detract from the sound of the sea and the wide selection of fish on the menu. (+39 0734 937124)

Re Squarchio (Petritoli) Just inside the three arches which form the gate of the nearby town, traditional Italian food using local produce (+39 0734 658649)

Papa Sisto (Grottammare), on the Coast with spectacular views of the Adriatic from the outside terrace, this restaurant has everything from Pizza to fine dining and is only 20 minutes away.  Park up the hill to avoid a long walk up. (+39 0735 633362)

Pizzaria Mamma Rosa (on the Valdaso road to Ortezzano) managed to win the coveted ‘best pizza in Italy’ award last year.  They have a great selection of differing types of Pizza and salads for the more carb-intolerant. Closed Wednesdays (+39 0734 770194)

Osteria Ophis (Offida) if you find yourself visiting Offida and would like to enjoy a lunch with typical Marche dishes, then this small family run restaurant is a great find, just off the main street to the central piazza at 54 Corso Serpente Aureo (+39 0736 889920)

Further away but close to Ascoli Piceno is the wonderful Villa Cicchi, a small family run hotel on the hills overlooking the town, with a wonderful selection of local food. ( +39 0736 252272)

There are also many other restaurants on the Coast at Grottammare or towards the mountains at Amandola and Sanarno.
